MIUI 9 Global ROM from Xiaomi Starts Rolling Out Today

MIUI is one of the most loved Android Systems from Chinese giant Xiaomi that brings a whole new look and feel to Android which unapologetically tends towards Apple’s iOS from who Xiaomi picked inspiration. The system officially comes as stock firmware for Xiaomi’s devices but has seen numerous ports that render MIUI run on other Android phones that are not made by Xiaomi. We have good news for Xiaomi and MIUI lovers today.

Back in July Xiaomi announced it’s MIUI 9 ROM for it’s devices. A beta version of it rolled out on July 27. The final build has been announced by the company to start rolling out today on a few of it’s devices with planned update for other as well.

Today only owners of the Redmi Note 4 (Qualcomm variant), Redmi Note 4X and Mi Max 2 handsets will get MIUI 9 update. It worth noting that only consumers using the MIUI 8 Global version will receive the OTA update. However, if you don’t receive the update for any of these phones, you can head over to Xiaomi MIUI Download website, download the update and install it manually. No need to use a computer. After downloading the update, open the System update app, tap on the 3 dots and install update from local storage.

Starting in mid-November, the Mi MIX 2, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 4X, Mi 5 and Mi Max will get MIUI 9. The Xiaomi Mi MIX, Mi 2 (and later versions), Mi Note (and later versions), Redmi Note 4G (and later versions), Redmi 2 (and later version) will start getting MIUI 9 from early December.

There no huge visual change MIUI 9 brings different from MIUI 8 but adds a ton a features like the three major styles for notifications i.e Multiple Styles, Bundling Notifications and Quick Replies a feature already in Android 7.0 Nougat. MIUI 9 also adds split screen functionality on addition to the new MIUI video app. Mi Drop now let’s you transfer files across devices without Internet connection.
