In trying to relive its “lost” glory, Nokia under HMD Global relaunched Nokia 3310 2017 version on 26th February,2017 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. The original Nokia 3310 was released on 1st September, 2000 and 126 million units were sold worldwide ranking it as the highest ever sold phone in history. Famously known for its long lasting battery, HMD Global revived this wonder phone.
Nokia 3310 (2017) isn’t an Android based phone, so don’t get excited about it shipping the latest Android Operating system. So if it’s not an Android phone, why i am writing about it?, well the answer is clear, in the current world where phones need to be charged at least everyday, you will probably need a backup phone to keep you communicating through calls and ordinally texts yet your style hasn’t been downgraded. In addition, you won’t need a high-end phone to this job for you, you can’t be seen wasting money to that extent, beside, your granny is yet to be convinced that if it’s not a touch screen, it’s not a phone.
All the above put aside, the Nokia 3310 (2017) is the true definition of an original phone reimagined, it’s simple and bold, however, this phone is priced at $60, so by the end of this article ,you will be able to decide whether to spend that money on the phone that doesn’t run anything close to Android or not.
The classic 2000 design was reimagined in attempt to remain stylish in whatever you do. Nokia 3310 (2017) was released in four fresh colours, all with a sleek-coloured keymat and a solid body that came with a tactile matte finish to ensure quality at your touch. The colours are Azure, Charcoal, Warm Red and Yellow.
There are beautiful push buttons, a 3.5mm headphone jack and size size is just perfect for your palm: 117 x 52.4 x 13.35mm. The Single-SIM weighs 84.9g while the Dual-SIM weighs 88.2g.
The phone comes with a 2.4″ QVGA display just enough to enable you call and text, the true aspect of being simple. The window display is also curved and has a polarized layer for better readability in sunlight.
You can still customise together with your granny, thanks to the phone’s customisable retro UI. There are options for rearranging icons and choosing colour themes which are completely available offline, so no need for data bundles.
Nokia 3310 (2017) is 3G with speeds ; Dual band 900/1800 MHz +3G Band 1 and 8 (Single-SIM) Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 +3G Band 1,2,5,8, has Bluetooth version 2.1 to pair with speakers and other phones. With an FM radio and MP3 player, you won’t miss your favorite radio shows wherever you are nor stop listening to your favorite songs.
The phone is powered by java, all is to keep it original.
To be honest at 2MP for primary camera coupled with an LED flash ,you won’t be able to take any clear photo even if you used the sun’s light rays, so don’t buy this phone to take photos, that’s not the definition of being simple and bold.
128MB of internal storage are enough to have all your contacts, however the good news is that the phone also packs a MicroSD card slot that supports up to 32GB enough to store your songs wherever you go.
1200mAh battery power in a removable BL-5C battery will give you the following;
- Maximum talk time up to 6.5 hours
- Maximum standby time of up to 27 days for Single-SIM and 24 days for Dual-SIM
- Maximum MP3 playback time of up to 40 hours
- Maximum radio playback time of up to 35 hours
With that, you are guaranteed to never miss a call due to low battery, and with power uncertainty on some continents due to unforeseen calamities, you are covered.
The legendary snake!!! You haven’t enjoyed any game if you didn’t play snake on the Nokia phones especially Nokia 3310. But don’t worry, the game is back and better on the color screen. For those who played like me, it’s to time to remember your highest score and try to beat it.
Before I conclude, this is what is in that box when you buy the phone;
- Nokia 3310 3G device
- Quick start
- Battery: BL-5C 1200mAh
- Micro-USB charger
- WH-108 headset
So, don’t accept to be cheated , $60 isn’t little money !
In a nut shell, based on the above i would recommend anyone on any day to have the Nokia 3310 (2017) as a back up device on top of the flagship Android smartphones.
