Ever since WhatsApp voice call feature was released, there has been rumors of a video calling feature to be released by the same company that would make the app perform in a similar manner to Facebook Messenger, another Messenger App by the same company the fact that Facebook now owns WhatsApp.

The Video calling feature was later rumored to have been introduced in the WhatsApp Beta app, then introduced in GBWhatsApp (v4.91), unfortunately it wouldn’t work as expected but the option to make video calls was present. Many other WhatsApp mods that followed claimed to have the same feature, including scam and fake WhatsApp mods like the commonly known WhatsApp Gold that many fell for.

WhatsApp took it to their blog to announce that the feature is now official and expected to role out in the latest build of the official WhatsApp App

Today we’re excited to announce the next step in our efforts to connect people – WhatsApp video calling. In the coming days, WhatsApp’s more than one billion users can make video calls across Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone devices.

This has been one of the long waited feature in WhatsApp, and we’ve seen it take on many features from its sister app Facebook Messenger. Only time will tell if it’s video call quality is as good and reliable as that in Facebook Messenger.
