Galaxy Z Flip: Samsung’s latest vertical folding smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is Samsung’s latest folding device following it’s Galaxy Fold released last year. This iteration of a folding phone bears a resemblance and form factor of the recently released Moto Razr 2020. It folds in half vertically rather than horizontally as the Galaxy Fold does. While the Galaxy Fold attempts to fold from a regular phone form factor to a tablet, the Galaxy Z Flip folds as a wallet does into a more pockatable device.

When unfolded it takes the appearance of a typical phone measuring in at 6.7 inches which is a Dynamic AMOLED panel with the 10 mega-pixel front selfie camera punched into the center top of the display. A crease may be visible in the middle of the display where the phone folds when using it. It goes without mentioning that unlike all recently released foldable phones with a fully plastic display, Samsung attempted to toughen this display to the point of boasting about how the company had created the first foldable glass display.

When folded, the phone spots a small 1.1 inch screen that can be used to display time and notification count, even to the extent of being used as a viewfinder — possibly the smallest, for when taking selfies with the main cameras.

Speaking of cameras, they are a dual set-up both 12 mega-pixels one a wide lens with f/1.8 aperture with Optical Image Stabilization and another a ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the side in the same position as the power button.

The hinge of the Galaxy Z Flip is one Samsung is incredibly proud of and claims to have added a better protective film to prevent dust and small particles from reaching their way into it.
